Book the elevator before you book the mover
Most GTA condo buildings want the service elevator reserved one to two weeks ahead, and they hand you a fixed window rather than a whole day. Many buildings allow only one move per day and none on Sundays or statutory holidays. Confirm your window with property management first, then let movers quote around it.
INSURANCE & DEPOSITS
The concierge will ask for paperwork, not a business card
Downtown buildings typically require a certificate of insurance naming the condo corporation as an additional insured, filed with management before move day, plus a refundable elevator deposit on the unit. On permit-parking streets in Toronto you can buy a temporary on-street permit in 24-hour, 48-hour or weekly durations, up to two weeks in advance, and not every street is a permit street — the city's Permit Parking office confirms which. Suburban municipalities across Peel, York, Durham and Halton each run their own rules. No legal curb means a long carry, and a long carry belongs in the quote before move day, not after it.
OLDER NEIGHBOURHOODS
Semis, walk-ups and laneway-only access
A Victorian semi with a narrow staircase, a third-floor walk-up, or a house whose only vehicle access is the rear laneway is a different job from a suburban two-storey with a driveway, even with identical furniture. Film the stairs, the doorways and the front of the house and the movers quoting you can see what they are walking into.
